What is DK Yarn Weight?
DK (Double Knitting) is one of the most common yarn weights used in UK knitting and crochet, sitting between 4-ply and Aran in thickness. It's typically worked on 3.75-4mm needles and gives roughly 22 stitches over 10cm in stocking stitch, making it a versatile, beginner-friendly choice for jumpers, blankets and accessories.
UK, Metric or US — How Are Knitting Needles Sized?
Knitting needles are labelled by diameter, most commonly in metric millimetres today, though older UK patterns sometimes use a separate numbered UK sizing system, and US patterns use their own number scale. Since these systems don't line up on a simple one-to-one basis, checking the metric mm size (often printed alongside the other scale) is the most reliable way to match a pattern's needle recommendation.
