'Paste the Wall' or 'Paste the Paper' — What's the Difference?

Paste-the-wall wallpaper has adhesive applied directly to the wall, with the dry paper then hung straight on top — quicker, less messy, and reduces the risk of the paper stretching or tearing while wet. Paste-the-paper is the traditional method, pasting the wallpaper itself and letting it 'soak' before hanging, which some patterned or textured papers still require — always check the roll's instructions rather than assuming.

Are Party Balloons Biodegradable?

Natural latex balloons are made from rubber tree sap and will biodegrade over time in a manner broadly similar to an oak leaf, unlike foil (mylar) balloons, which are plastic-based and do not biodegrade. Even biodegradable latex balloons should be disposed of responsibly rather than released outdoors, since they can still take weeks to break down and pose a litter and wildlife risk in the meantime.

Bromine or Chlorine — Which Is Better for Hot Tub Sanitising?

Engraved or Printed — What Is the Difference in Personalised Homeware?

Engraving physically cuts or etches a design into the material itself (wood, metal or glass), giving a permanent, tactile result that will not fade or wash off but is limited mostly to text and simple designs. Printing applies ink, vinyl or a UV-cured coating onto the surface, allowing full-colour photos and detailed designs, but it sits on top of the material and can wear or fade faster than an engraved finish over years of handling.

Eyelet, Pencil Pleat or Tab Top — What Do Curtain Header Types Mean?

The header is how a curtain attaches to its pole or track and shapes how it hangs. Eyelet headers have metal rings that thread directly onto a pole for a relaxed, uniform fold; pencil pleat uses a gathered tape pulled to create tight, even pleats and usually needs hooks; tab top and pinch pleat are other common styles, each giving a different amount of fullness and drape.

Garment Steamer or Iron — What Is the Difference?

Ultrasonic pest repellers emit high-frequency sound, above the range of human hearing, that some rodents and insects find disruptive or uncomfortable, aiming to discourage them from an area rather than killing them outright. Effectiveness varies by pest type, room layout and obstacles blocking the sound, and results are generally considered less reliable and consistent than trap- or bait-based pest control methods.

How Should a Dog Crate Be Sized?

Watts measure the electricity a bulb draws, while lumens measure the actual brightness of light produced. Since LED bulbs produce far more light per watt than old incandescent bulbs, comparing wattage alone is misleading — checking the lumens figure on the packaging is the reliable way to judge how bright a replacement bulb or fitting will actually be.

Matt, Silk or Gloss — What Do Paint Sheen Levels Mean?
