What Does Load-Bearing Capacity Mean for Shelving?
Load-bearing capacity is the maximum weight a shelf or unit is rated to hold safely, usually given per shelf rather than for the whole unit, and assuming weight is spread evenly rather than concentrated in one spot. Static capacity (items left in place) is generally higher than dynamic capacity (items moved on and off), so heavier, frequently-handled items need extra headroom below the stated rating.
