What is IP Rating (Outdoor Lighting)?

IP (Ingress Protection) rating is a two-digit code, such as IP44 or IP65, indicating how well a light fitting resists solid objects and water. The first digit rates dust/particle resistance, the second rates moisture resistance. Outdoor UK lighting should be at least IP44, with IP65+ recommended for fittings directly exposed to rain.
