How much room does a dog need in a crate?
A properly fitted crate should let your dog stand up fully, turn around comfortably, and lie down stretched out — but shouldn't be so large that they can use one end as a bathroom while sleeping in the other, which can slow down house training.
Should I size a crate for my puppy or their adult size?
Size for their expected adult weight where possible, and use a crate divider panel to reduce the usable space while they're small. This avoids buying multiple crates as they grow, while still keeping the space appropriately sized during house training.
Is it better to measure my dog or go by breed weight?
A direct nose-to-tail-base measurement gives the most accurate fit, especially for mixed breeds or dogs that are unusually long or short-legged for their weight. Breed weight charts are a reasonable estimate when you don't have a tape measure to hand.
What crate height do I need?
